Non-Fiction and Memoir Book Ghostwriting Service

Everybody has a book in them. What’s yours?

If you’re looking to solidify your reputation as a thought leader, then authoring a value-laden and well-received book can be an enormous step in the right direction.

Although blogging and other forms of online writing have never been more accessible, writing a book remains a gold standard in accruing authority.

Thankfully, these days, getting a book to market is comparatively straightforward. Today’s authors have several means at their disposal to get their composition onto bookshelves — or readers’ Kindles. If conventional publishing is not an option, self-publishing through a service such as Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is both quick and easy.

Book Writing FAQs

How can I take things forward?

If you are interested in having a non-fiction or memoir ghostwritten then a sensible first step is to book a no commitment 15 minute meeting slot at this link.

I’ll be using the meeting to evaluate if this is a project that I might be a good fit for. And I expect that you’ll be using the meeting to evaluate if I would be a good fit for your project.

As book lengths (and hence quotes) vary widely, we can also use this meeting to discuss a ballpark cost estimate for the project. In general, however, you can expect this to be a five figure number (in US dollars).

I have a great book idea. Would you be interested in a royalty split?

Regrettably, however appealing the proposition and however much potential the book might have, I cannot work on a royalties-only basis. Investing time which can only possibly be compensated by a future outcome which I have no control over (how well the book sells) is not a risk I can currently afford to take on.

All ghostwriting jobs I contract for at a minimum include a fixed price contract to compensate me for the time spent writing the text.

Can you publish my book on Amazon?

Even though I have the knowledge required to arrange design of your cover art and the formatting of your text and to publish it through KDP, I cannot directly publish your text because I am not a publisher of other authors’ works — nor do I intend to ever be one (this would mean assuming legal responsibility for the text and providing an altogether different service than ghostwriting.. )

What I can do is:

  • Provide guidance on how to publish through KDP.
  • Recommend third-party vendors who specialize in cover art design and formatting for e-book and print.

—-

Will I own the copyright and other intellectual property (IP) rights to the book that you write?

Yes.

As is standard practice, my default contract vests full IP rights to the author upon conclusion of the contact (which involves me providing the finished work according to the agreed specification and you paying the agreed sum).

The only right I request is to display the book in my portfolio.

I also ask that all book clients sign a Certificate of Authorship attesting to the fact that I wrote the book (the form contains a field to specify the nature of the writing relationship and whether my authorship was part or whole).

—-

What payment terms do you typically work to?

Typically for book projects I require an upfront payment which is typically between 10-25% of the contract value.

Further payments are made in accordance with agreed project milestones which coincide with key writing and editorial tasks such as the delivery of completed chapters or the finalizing of an agreed numbers of rounds of editing.

How do you onboard material? How will we be coordinating during the writing process?

Authors send me material in a variety of ways.

You could, for instance, choose to send me rough notes that you have compiled over the years.

Alternatively, you could send me an audio transcription of something which you have narrated.

In addition to the above many authors like to hold a series of online (videoconference) meetings to discuss their book idea and the material that they have at their disposal.

Sometimes authors prefer to meet in person. This, of course, can be arranged. But details should be discussed at a later stage.

How long will it take?

The length of books varies quite widely. But in general, it is safe to factor in about 250 words per printed page.

Word countApproximate page countApproximate lead time
20,000803 months
40,0001606 months
60,0002409 months
80,00032012 months

The minimum page count for a book or e-book to be listed on Amazon is 24 pages. 160-200 pages is a common word and page count for non-fiction books and business memoirs.

What subjects do you feel confident that you can ghost?

My background is in writing for technology clients, including those which I worked at.

In addition I can write about:

  • Business and leadership
  • Biographies and life memoirs
  • Culture
  • History
  • Language
  • Self-help
  • Strategy
  • Travel

I do not ghostwrite fiction of any kind.

What is the difference between this service and your e-book service?

Printed books are obviously not e-books.

Additionally, e-books are commonly used — alongside white papers — in marketing campaigns and attributed collectively to marketing teams or companies.

This book-writing service — which encompasses writing e-books as these days almost every printed book publisher also produces a corresponding electronic version — is targeted rather at individuals.

Can I publish this book through a publishing house?

The finished text remains your intellectual property. You are free to pursue whatever avenue to publication you wish. This might be self-publishing on Amazon (via Kindle Direct Publishing). Or through another mechanism – perhaps one mediated by an agent.

—-

Do you require some form of attribution?

No. I do not require co-authoring attribution such as ‘with X’, or ‘as told to X’. However, I would sometimes be interested in being attributed as a coauthor. This can be discussed when we conclude and agree to a contract.

—-

Have you written a book previously?

I have a portfolio of ghostwritten book authorship and would be happy to share samples and, on occasion, to put you in touch with former authors.

Book ghostwriting is a professional arrangement that is predicated upon its confidentiality as well as trust and discretion. Therefore, I don’t publish authors I have worked with, or samples, publicly online.

I also recently published The Confused Freelancer’s Guide to Technology (1st Ed.).
